Benjamin Michael Castro

Happy one month of life to our baby boy!

I'm so excited to be starting this blog and keeping everyone updated on Benjamin! We have lots of friends and family out of town and I figured this is a good way to share progress and other fun stuff.

Two weeks ago Ben got to come home.
My heart is happy.
After three weeks in the ICN we needed some normalcy as a family. If you have had babies, you know that bringing him home did not necessarily feel normal. Great, yes. Exciting, definitely. Just not normal.
We're tired! The image of the last month and especially the last few weeks will be burned into my brain forever! It's a delirious blur of diaper changes, feedings, sleeping (the baby not me), playing, staring, walks, coffee, lounging, crying, visitors, and happiness. It's exactly what I expected but not even close to what I was prepared for.

We have gotten so much support and encouragement from our friends, family, and church family. We are so grateful for the kindness and generosity that we have felt and want everyone to know how much it has meant to us.
We feel loved.

I just need about two sentences worth of praise for my husband. If you aren't into that kind of thing, just skip down to the end. : )
After my C Section everyone told me to make sure I took care of myself so that I could better be there for Benjamin. What people didn't know was that Eric takes care of me way better than I would ever take care of myself (even when I'm healthy and not crippled). His family should be proud of the husband and father that he is. My family should also be proud of my good taste!

I'm happy to share the ups and downs of life with my best friend.

Speaking of C Sections, for those that don't know all of the details of Benji's birth and hospital stay, I will definitely be posting our story. For now, though, I need to focus on the present and future.
Here's where we're at...
Benjamin in one month old! He weighs 5lb 3oz and is 18in long. He wears premie diapers and clothes but they get tighter and shorter everyday. He gains weight like he should, but isn't the best breastfeeder. (We are so thankful for the lactation nurses at our hospital that we meet with every week!) He loves to lay on mommy and daddy's chest to sleep and is so super content to just hang out with us. I love giving him a bath because he is so calm and relaxed in the water. It's so cute! We can't wait to watch him grow!

And now I leave you with this cuteness...

Peace,
Samm
